GTA VI: too good to be true? Rockstar reminds us why we should never doubt

On May 6, 2025, Rockstar dropped a bombshell. Less than a week after announcing the postponement of GTA VI to May 2026, the studio posted a second trailer. And what a trailer it is. In the space of just a few minutes, all eyes were on this video: 2.46 minutes of in-game images that make you dizzy.

A trailer that exceeds expectations

From the very first seconds, something strikes you: it’s beautiful. Too beautiful? That’s the question on many minds. The level of detail, the lighting, the animations… It’s like watching a Hollywood blockbuster, not just a video game trailer.

And yet, everything is captured directly in the game engine. No CGI, no effects made up in post-production. Just pure Rockstar. As always, the studio shows what the game is really capable of, without artifice. That’s their trademark. And it makes all the difference.

The universe finally takes shape

For years, GTA VI has been a mirage. A subject of rumors, fantasies and dubious leaks on social networks. And then, in the space of a few months, everything accelerated: a first trailer in December, then this one, much richer, much more embodied.

We finally discover the main character duo, Jason and Lucia, evolving in a reinvented Florida, full of color, tension and social satire. Every shot in the trailer is a visual slap in the face. Rockstar isn’t just teasing a game: they’re unveiling a living, chaotic, fascinating world.

More than a game, a technological showcase

All you have to do is pause on any of the images in the trailer to understand. A reflection on a windshield, a cloud of dust kicked up by a car, neon lighting flooding an alleyway… every detail seems designed to make you forget you’re in a video game.

And remember, all this is running on a standard PS5, not on a “Pro” version, nor on a supercharged PC. What we’re seeing today is just the beginning. On PC, in one or two years’ time, GTA VI could reach an even more vertiginous level of realism.

The Rockstar experience, again and again

This isn’t the first time Rockstar has impressed with a trailer. We still remember the meticulous marketing of Red Dead Redemption II, where each new video marked an increase in graphic power. And when the game was finally released, it surpassed even the trailers. It’s this promise, implicit but constant, that fans rediscover with GTA VI: blind confidence in the studio’s mastery.

2026 may seem a long way off, but it’s worth the wait

So yes, the announcement of the postponement to 2026 was frustrating. But who could blame Rockstar after seeing this trailer? If every extra month of development brings this level of polish, let’s wait and see. Because if what we see today is already spectacular, the final game could well redefine open-world standards once again.
